Dance team summer update

Varsity and JV Dance ready to leave for camp!

The Rosary Dance Team attended two camps over the summer, including the elite dance camp sponsored by the Universal Dance Association. Held over a five-day period at the University of San Diego, this challenging camp is for competitive teams that consistently receive top level scores at previous camps. Dance teams from throughout the country hoping to compete at the national level are evaluated both as teams and as individuals, and receive scores based upon performance and technique.

This year, once again, Rosary Dance received high scores for their camp qualifier routine - the first step towards making the finals at this year's National Dance Team Championships to be held in February in Orlando, Florida.

Yearbook camp

The staff poses in their "YERD" spirit shirts at YearbookTech.

Covering a school year is a full-time job for the new 2013 "Reflections" yearbook staff. This summer they attended the YearbookTech design workshop held on the campus of Cathedral Catholic HS in Del Mar. This three-day camp introduces new staff to the tricks of the trade and allows returning students the chance to be leaders and keep up on current design trends. The staff was greeted by former "Reflections" Editor-in-Chief Katie Bellows ('08) who was the senior student leader at the workshop!

While no formal awards were part of this year's format, the enthusiastic Royals won the Spirit competition by "rapping" their introductions and dressing in (mostly) authentic 70's garb to match the workshop's theme, "My Generation". More important, they worked hard to demonstrate their theme ideas and create templates to guide the process this fall. Congratulations to the whole staff for their dedication!

Softball pitcher's college commitment

Annika Seedborg ('14)
Head Softball Coach Tom Tice is pleased to announce that Rosary pitcher Annika Seedborg has given a verbal commitment to UC Davis after visiting the campus this summer.
Last season, her sophomore year, Annika was 11-7 with 5 shutouts, 115 strikeouts in 113 innings, and a 1.40 ERA. She was chosen as a Second-team All-Trinity League honoree. The Rosary Community is very proud of Annika, and we look forward to two more exciting years of watching her pitching endeavors for the Royals!
UC Davis is widely known for their specialties in agriculture, viticulture and enology, the biological sciences and veterinary medicine, and their teaching and research are grounded in a century-plus tradition of excellence that stretches across all of the disciplines.

Powder Puff results

Jackie Olvera runs the ball for the Class of 2012

The women of Rosary participated in the highly-anticipated Powder Puff Football Game in May as the school year wound down. The Class of 2012 was decisively victorious, with a final score of 21-0, but the Class of 2013 will get a second opportunity this year to take the title now that they are seniors. It was a challenging and exciting afternoon on Courage Field at Servite High School.
